Magnolia Stands with our Veterans

Roman Araya of the Weed for Warriors Project visits Magnolia to speak with veterans.

Roman Araya of the Weed for Warriors Project visits Magnolia to speak with veterans.

Here at Magnolia, we understand that military veterans need our support. Vets face numerous issues upon returning home from tours of duty abroad, the most serious of which include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a high rate of suicide.

If you're a veteran looking to talk with other vets, or if you're just looking for help navigating the maze of services and benefits available, Magnolia is proud to announce two meetings just for you.

Tonight, Monday, August 8th, at 6:30pm, veterans are encouraged to join a Veterans Support Group with Ryan Miller of EVAC. The group is being held at the Gateway Incubator, located at 330 2nd St in Oakland. The group will meet the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month.

We are also planning a general group with Weed for Warriors where veterans can get answers to questions about everything particular to post-military life.  This group will be here at Magnolia on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, with a time still TBD.

Please attend the group tonight at Gateway to find out more about our veterans services and how cannabis might be right for you.

School Supplies Drive a great success

As part of National Night Out on August 2nd, Magnolia Oakland organized a school supplies drive to support children in the local community as they head back to class later this month.

More than 60 school kids took advantage of Magnolia's giveaway, which included backpacks, folders, notebooks, pencil, crayons, and more. We even threw in an ice cream sundae bar to make sure the events wasn't just about getting ready for school — after all, summer vacation isn't over yet!

We want to thank the local West Oakland community for turning out with your kids! Let's do it again next year, shall we?

Buzzfeed: Whoopi & Maya works for menstrual pain

Any company can say that their product relieves pain and cramps, but it's up to patients to decide whether or not the product really works.  Whoopi & Maya, a line of cannabis infused products created by celebrity Whoopi Goldberg and Om Edibles founder, Maya Elizabeth, is aimed squarely at relieving menstrual pains. But does it really work?

Well, Buzzfeed put Whoopi and Maya's products to the test last week, and the results were conclusive: this stuff really works! Here is one woman's testimonial after trying the Whoopi and Maya Savor Raw Cacao spread:

On a particularly rough emotional day, I ate a tablespoon of the cacao and was able to go CLOTHES SHOPPING. This was on a day where I would normally just want to sit on my couch, eat ice cream, and cry while watching Titanic. I bought crop tops! CROP TOPS! This felt like a huge victory to me. I had one outburst the next day while using the tincture, but only one outburst compared to my norm was another victory in my book. It was so easy to just drop it in my drink and go about my day, yet notice a huge change overall. These products allowed me to exist while helping me maintain my emotions. I definitely recommend trying them.

The Buzzfeed video has already gotten over 1.5 million views on YouTube. Enjoy!

Ed Rosenthal in the house!

Ed Rosenthal and a group of distinguished guests visiting Magnolia on June 9th, 2016.

Magnolia's Chief Strategic Officer, Ed Rosenthal, made an appearance in the dispensary on Thursday with a group of distinguished guests. He even took time to sign copies of his books for a few lucky patients while here. One woman was so excited at the opportunity that she ran out to her car to grab a dog-eared copy of Ed's Beyond Buds book.

If you'd like to meet Ed Rosenthal, you're in luck! He'll soon be doing a series of grow lectures at Magnolia. Check back here for dates and times! You won't want to miss these events.

Looking for CBD?

When it comes to CBD, we've found that many of our patients ask the same question: where can I find some? It's true that CBD products are still relatively rare compared to high-THC offerings.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the second most prevalent cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. CBD has shown great promise across a wide variety of potential medical applications and has been used to treat conditions as diverse as cancer, epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. (You should consult with a physician about how the medical benefits of cannabis can help in your particular situation.) One of the best aspects of CBD is that it is not psychoactive. In fact, high CBD cannabis products can counteract the effects of too much THC. High CBD cannabis strains are also useful for patients who want to achieve the health benefits of cannabis consumption without experiencing the typical psychoactive effects.

High-CBD products currently available at Magnolia:

  • Flowers: Sungrown Harle-Sue
  • Concentrates: Brite Labs Mountain Temple Wax & Silver Tsunami Wax;  Guild CBD Pure Crystalline 99.9%; Dankman Suzi Q Wax
  • Edibles: High-CBD chocolate bars are available from Cali Gold and Day Dreamers brands; a wide variety of tinctures from Care By Design, Alta Botanicals, and Magnolia's house brand; chews from Cheeba Chews and Sensi Chew; Mediroons CBD macaroons; and, Whoopi & Maya's Savor CBD Raw Cacao.

The availability of these products is subject to change, but we're always well-stocked with CBD medicine. As always, you can find more information about cannabis in all its forms on Magnolia's Cannabis Basics page.
